Job Opening — Felony Deputy Clerk:
The Felony Deputy Clerk is responsible for the preparation, maintenance, and processing of felony and juvenile delinquency court records, as well as performing the duties of a courtroom clerk.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Processing Court Records:
- Handle court records in accordance with established procedures and guidelines.
- Assist with First Appearances.
- Set up new cases and assign case numbers.
- Prepare and process motions, dispositions, pleadings, orders, and judgments.
- Receive and review documents to ensure completeness and accuracy, certifying and time/date stamping materials.
- Process case filings via the State E-Filing Portal, paper documents, or other sources.
- Manage confidential documentation, including arrest warrants, bench warrants, and search warrants.
- Schedule hearing dates, prepare and maintain court dockets, and correspond with the judiciary regarding upcoming trials.
- Maintain records relating to jury summons, excusals, and selection.
- Update and maintain case data, including sentencing and judgment information, and manage case docketing.
- Distribute documents to all parties and agencies involved.
- Review and redact sensitive and confidential information in compliance with Florida Rules of Judicial Administration 2.420.
- Prepare and transmit records to the Department of Corrections.
2. Performing Courtroom Clerk Duties:
- Prepare for and attend court proceedings.
- Administer oaths to jurors and witnesses.
- Process related exhibits and evidence.
- Prepare and distribute form orders as required by the judge.
- Interact with courtroom personnel, including attorneys, court reporters, and bailiffs.
- Process jurors and jury pools, ensuring jurors are properly compensated.
- Maintain records of court proceedings and minutes, and distribute documents to relevant parties and agencies.
3. Receiving and Processing Payments:
- Manage court fees and restitution payments.
- Verify payment histories and provide certified copies to attorneys and courts upon request.
- Set up and manage payment plans.
4. Customer Service Duties:
- Respond to public inquiries regarding case status, court procedures, and document retrieval.
- Provide assistance in person, over the telephone, and through written correspondence.
5. Other Duties:
- Conduct special projects and research as assigned.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the Clerk of Court.
